Compensation: $16 - $20 per hour

Schedule: M,T,Th., F: 3pm-6pm & W: 1pm-6pm

Status: Non-exempt

 

Our School 

Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020 beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. We are looking for experienced, dedicated, and motivated individuals who are excited by the challenge of being part of a new school. Houston Classical is founded on the idea that scholars can learn at a high level notwithstanding their zip code or background.

The Role

Houston Classical is seeking a dynamic After-School Program Teacher to play a vital role in providing academic support, leading engaging educational activities, and ensuring a safe and positive environment for scholars.

 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist scholars with homework, clarify concepts, and guide them through tasks to ensure comprehension and completion
  • Develop and lead educational activities and projects tailored to scholars’ interests and needs stimulating curiosity and supporting their intellectual and personal growth
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging space where scholars are encouraged to participate, respect one another, and develop positive behaviors
  • Observe and assess scholar performance, tracking academic and behavioral progress
  • Provide regular updates to leadership regarding scholar development
  • Recognize and support each scholar’s unique learning style and needs, offering additional help or enrichment activities as necessary
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and ensure a secure environment by supervising scholars during activities, transitions, and while using equipment or facilities

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children in an educational or recreational setting is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to create a supportive, engaging, and respectful learning environment.
  • Ability to address the diverse needs of scholars and provide individualized attention.
  • Commitment to scholar safety and well-being.
