Our School
Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020, beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. We are seeking experienced, dedicated, and motivated individuals who are excited about the challenge of being part of a growing school. Houston Classical is founded on the idea that scholars can learn at a high level, notwithstanding their zip code or background.

The Role
As the Receptionist, you are often the first point of contact for families, visitors, and community members. This role is critical to ensuring that all interactions, whether in person, by phone, or by email, reflect the professionalism of Houston Classical. The Receptionist also plays a key role in supporting daily school operations through clerical and administrative duties while providing exceptional customer service and assisting with the intake of new families.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Front Office & Customer Service
- Greet all visitors warmly and professionally, ensuring the front office consistently reflects a welcoming, service-oriented environment.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to students, families, and community members, creating a positive first impression and reinforcing the school’s culture of respect and care.
- Manage incoming phone calls by answering promptly, routing efficiently, and providing accurate, helpful information.
- Oversee front office communications by facilitating timely and effective interactions between visitors, staff, and school leadership, ensuring clear and reliable information flow.
- Issue visitor badges, maintain sign-in/sign-out logs, and enforce visitor policies to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff.
Family Intake & Enrollment Support
- Respond promptly and accurately to inquiries from prospective families and the public, ensuring clear communication about the admissions process.
- Assist with the intake of new families by collecting enrollment documents, verifying accuracy, and tracking student enrollment status to maintain compliance and efficiency.
- Support lottery procedures, enrollment events, and follow-up communications with families to promote transparency and a positive enrollment experience.
Clerical & Administrative Duties
- Sort and distribute incoming mail and packages promptly; maintain delivery logs and notify staff of arrivals in a timely manner.
- Perform general clerical tasks such as data entry, filing, proofreading, and preparing documents with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Support school operations as needed by covering administrative duties and assisting staff with special projects to ensure smooth day-to-day functioning.
- Assist the Registrar/PEIMS Coordinator with attendance-related tasks as assigned, maintaining accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
Professionalism & Compliance
- Maintain strict confidentiality of student, family, and employee information at all times, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Demonstrate a high level of professionalism in all communications and interactions, representing the school with integrity and respect.
- Keep the supervisor regularly informed of key activities, emerging concerns, and potential challenges to support timely decision-making.
- Take initiative by recommending process improvements and actively contribute to special projects that enhance school operations and culture, as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience in customer service, front office management, or school operations strongly preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suite and comfort with technology.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to remain professional, calm, and welcoming in a fast-paced environment.
